Do You Really Know?

What should I say?

What should I do?

Actually, to tell you the truth

I do have something to say

I know many people think

That just because I

Look the way I am

I have no issues, or

Don’t know anything bad

Yes, I am Greek, but what’s

It to you? I’ve been

Discriminated by my

Own people for not being

“Born” there while in the

Famous U.S. of A. I’m

Known as a foreign

“White” girl

Really? Is that what

You think?

How many of you knew

That the Greeks were

Slaves for over 400 years?

They were repressed:

Told to never speak

Their language ever again,

But they rose up,

And won their independence.

So yeah, some people out

There actually know real

Pain, EVEN if their

Skin isn’t dark

How about my grandmother?

She was shot by the

Rebels in Greece,

Barely making it alive.

So maybe there’s a whole

World out there that

Others don’t know of.

One in which we all

Have had our problems

In the past, even in

The dead, want-to-be-

Forgotten past.

You never know if you

Don’t ask.

Your Voice

When you speak, music flows through my ears

High pitch, low pitch, you possess both

My body moves to the natural tempo

The words create a vivid daydream in my mind

Sentences are beats to an unspoken tune

The rhythm is prominent and ever-lasting

The words become commands to dance

Musicality and harmony are not enough

Your voice puts me in a trance

And all I see is the image that your voice paints
