Selfless
Yellow-green saplings rip through tender vines
Never have they been kissed by a single dew drop
Or been shattered by a violent hail storm
Young and naïve, they reach for the sun
Illuminated by her radiant beams
And soaked with mother Earth’s nutrients
The little saps harden their stems
For the bitter cold that is winter
How generous the big star has been
Sheltering them, feeding them
Giving the little producers all energy possible
Now until the forgotten doomsday, when she falls
Through the shadows, remain in them, the light
As they greedily drink when it pours
Spread seeds to their hearts content
And shelter strange creatures strolling by
But what have they given back to her?
The sun stands alone
For how long
God only knows
Forever putting everything before her
The sun blazes in pride
Pride of her existence, and fear
Fear of what will happen
When she’s gone
