Talisman of Qelbi
Sand dances to the rhythm of beating lover’s beating hearts
Flutes sing as their voices echo through the gulleys
Scintillating almond oil aromas tickle the cilia of the villagers
Where the sun wakes and minorettes echo persuading believers to prayer
Magic carpets ling into the midnight
Belly dancers distribute chimes to the paupers
Turbans attack the sunshine’s rays
Where eyes are the only roadmap
And dozens of children play marbles until dinner
A land neighbors are family
And a spoon of sugar is returned with a cup of tea
Where the elderly sit outside all day
They don’t leave their stoop until sunset strikes
I embrace my ethnicity
Embarrassment can rest in peace
I represent the Greater Middle East of Asia
