Hand intertwined with my own
Filling the empty spaces that I cannot fulfill myself.
A sense of manmade strength
Forever in “sickness & in health”
A friendship established & a sisterhood built.
A bond that can not be explained
Never divided
A lifetime warranty, forever maintained.
Secrets among secrets a trust established
Something to truly hold on to
To cherish & love
Someone to support & help pull through.
We’re misunderstood & misinterpreted
And highly second-guessed.
People haven’t overcome diversity
And adjusted to racial progress.
They want our skin color to dictate and establish
A relationship well-built
They want to destroy and demolish
With racial guilt.
We ignore those who shun us.
& want them to further discuss.
To think & try to figure out
How such a friendship came about.
We laugh and grin at the debate
& know the answer to our friendship is simply fate
Looking beyond skin color, we’re proud of what we become
Alecia & Kayla, two hearts… combined as one.
